Dodmoor House, Northamptonshire Wedding Photography
Travelling up to Northamptonshire for Amy and Mark’s wedding at Dodmoor House, I knew a few things. I knew the wedding was going to very child friendly, but that was fine – as I’ve said before I think kids make some of the best photo opportunities at wedding. I knew there was likely to be some emotional tears and a lot of laughs.
But the one thing I wasn’t quite expecting was a wedding with a Tottenham Hotspur FC theme throughout. The colours for the day were predominantly blue and white (to match Spurs’ team colours), tables named after Spurs players, a street sign for the Spurs stadium, White Hart Lane, on the head table and even Amy wearing a Tottenham Hotspur garter beneath her wedding dress! Being a West Ham United fan myself – who share a fierce rivalry with Spurs – it was an extra challenge for me! Then again, I managed to get through a previous wedding with a lot of Millwall fans in one piece (Millwall are West Ham’s closest rivals!) – so I was used to keeping my head down and getting on with it. After all, that’s part of being a wedding photojournalist!
Amy is a proud mum to Mikey and also a child minder, so she was very keen that I captured a lot of photos of the kids throughout the wedding day. Of course, kids are less bothered about cameras being pointed at them than us adults, so they always offer loads of great moments and emotions for a wedding photojournalist to document.
So whether it playing hide and seek, showing of their football skills and techniques, being flung around the dancefloor or just standing there looking cute and innocent I certainly managed to capture a lot of striking children images.
The other funny re-occurring theme of Amy and Mark’s wedding was the number of times I took photos of friends or relatives seeming losing their heads up inside Amy’s beautiful wedding dress. Of course, this was all about some delicate and technical adjustments that were required, ahem, behind the scenes, but this did present some amusing and humorous photo opportunities, which may have not always been fully appreciated at the time…but I’m sure all can see the funny side now.
Of course, the wedding was full of the usual emotions – from excited laughter through to some touching and tearful moments. This was all set against the beautiful backdrop of Dodmoor House in rural Northamptonshire. It really is a lovely wedding venue with its converted farm barns ideal for an intimate wedding.
The following photos are a very small selection of the photos from Amy and Mark’s wedding story, and I’m sure you’ll agree it was a lovely day.
