Northamptonshire Pre-Wedding Photography – Emily and Phil

Northamptonshire Pre-Wedding Photography- Kelmarsh House

Kelmarsh Hall Pre-Wedding Photography Shoot

Next month I will be shooting the Northampton wedding photography of Emily and Phil, who will be tying the knot in the delightful Northamptonshire village of Chapel Brampton. So a week or so ago I caught up with the happy-couple-to-be to shoot their pre-wedding photography portraits.

We agreed to do the shoot in the beautiful surroundings of Kelmarsh Hall which is a Grade I listed country house, set in the rolling English countryside 11 miles north of Northampton. Built in 1732 and with stunning gardens, it really is a fantastic location in which to shoot a pre-wedding photography session.

Beautiful Day, Wonderful Company

Although it had been a year since Emily and Phil booked me as their wedding photographer, I had seen them since when I was the wedding photographer at Phil’s sister’s wedding, also in Northamptonshire. So it was like to catching up with old friends immediately – and we were quickly chatting and laughing about all kinds of things. The fact that Phil has a keen interest in photography and has, himself, shot as a second photographer at weddings meant we were quickly boring Emily with more technical talk then I would usually submit a couple to!

With the sun shining, flowers in glorious bloom and a gentle breeze it really was a beautiful day to be out doing what I love in a fabulous setting and with great company. Sometimes being a wedding photographer can be so tough! But, hey, some of us have to do it.

Wedding Photojournalism & Pre-Wedding Portrait Photography

Now, I know that as a pure wedding photojournalist who constantly talks about the importance of a natural, candid and unobtrusive approach to wedding photojournalism, it may seem a little unusual that I offer pre-wedding portrait shoots.  However, I actually find they are really useful for us to get to know one another before a wedding and for the happy-couple-to-be to get used to me photographing around them. So, yes, whilst I do shoot the wedding day itself in a predominantly wedding reportage style (depending on the package) I do find pre-wedding portrait shoots are incredible useful and enjoyable.  And who can grumble about getting some beautiful portraits into the bargain?
