Horsham Wedding Photography – Nicole & Eugene’s Real Wedding Story

Real Wedding Photojournalism – Nicole & Eugene’s Sussex Wedding

When I first met Nicole & Eugene at their home in Pease Pottage, down in West Sussex, I just knew their wedding was going to a fun and enjoyable experience.  After all, not only did they love the idea of wedding photojournalism capturing their wedding story in a totally unique, candid and unobtrusive way but we really clicked on a personal level straight away sharing a similar sense of humour.  So I was genuinely thrilled and excited when they asked me to be their wedding photographer at their Horsham Registry office wedding and then at their wedding reception at the Roebuck Hotel in East Sussex.

Bridal Preparations Photography – Premier Inn, Crawley

As always I started the wedding day by photographing the bridal preparations. I’ve said it before but those preparations are fantastic source material for wedding photojournalism.  The excitement is palpable at the start day and emotions run high, producing great moments for any wedding story.  For Nicole’s big day, it was a crack of dawn start at the Premier Inn hotel on the outskirts of Crawley. After enjoying a hearty breakfast with the bridal party it was down to business and documenting all the moments, expressions and incidents as the girls got ready. It may have been pouring quite heavily outside, but the girls were determined this wasn’t going to get in the way of a good time!

Grooms Preparations Photography – Pease Pottage, West Sussex

Nicole and Eugene were keen that the groom’s preparations for the wedding day were also documented and this is where my second photographer really comes into his own by adding this extra wedding photography coverage on the day. So with me hard at work with the bridal part in Crawley, he was dispatched to the couple’s home to photograph Eugene preparing for the day ahead with the Best Man.

Horsham Registry Office Wedding Photography

Documentary wedding photography of the bride arriving for the marriage service at the Horsham Registry Office, Sussex.

The wedding ceremony itself took place at the intimate but beautiful Horsham Registry Office in West Sussex. Although the morning had started off grey and wet, by the time arrived at the wedding venue the sun was beginning to break through and promising a lovely day ahead.  The reception room was packed for the wedding service, with some guests having to stand at the back of the room.  The pride on Eugene’s face as Nicole, his beautiful bride arrived, was a picture to behold.  As a wedding photojournalist I was able to work quietly and discreetly around the couple, as they tied the knot, and with my second photographer providing extra coverage from the back of the room we were able to capture the ceremony in a full and complete manner that ensured a really full documentary approach to the couple’s wedding story.  It was then into the delightful gardens afterwards for the more formal and traditional posed wedding portrait photos.

Once the wedding formals were done it was a drive across county borders and into the rural depths of the East Sussex countryside and the 17th Century Roebuck Hotel in Forest Row, just down the road from the Royal Ashdown Forest.  With the sun now fully shining it really was a beautiful setting for the rest of the wedding day.  Ensuring a discrete and candid approach to my wedding photojournalism style I set about capturing all those moments you would expect of a wedding story: the speeches and toasts, the games, the cutting of the cake, the first dance and all the evening’s festivities.  And, as comes naturally to a wedding photojournalist, I also ensured that I documented all these slight and fleeting moments in-between the moments. It’s these incidences that really do add to the overall wedding story and ensure memories can be cherished and last for a lifetime. I’m sure you’ll agree that Nicole and Eugene’s wedding day was a fabulous one – and that my natural and highly personalised wedding photojournalism approach really added to the day.

Documenting The Real Story Of Your Wedding. Never Dictating it.

My Wedding Stories show you a chronological selection of photos from throughout a REAL wedding day, rather than just images specially selected for a portfolio (us photographers love to do that.)  After all, your wedding photography should be about your entire day rather than the very best images from the day.  I hope this not only gives you a feel of a whole wedding day but also demonstrates how my wedding photojournalism captures the natural moments, candid emotions and real events of the day – without the need to set up or stage fake moments. If you are getting married and enjoy my documentary wedding photography approach, then I’d really love to chat to you about your plansSend me an email here.
